"The short story, Franny, takes place in an unnamed college town and tells the tale of an undergraduate who is becoming disenchanted with the selfishness and inauthenticity she perceives all around her. The novella, Zooey, is named for Zooey Glass, the second youngest member of the Glass family. As his younger sister, Franny suffers a spiritual and existential breakdown in her parents' Manhattan living room-leaving Bessie, her mother, deeply concerned-Zooey comes to her aid, offering what he thinks is brotherly love, understanding, and the words of sage advice" -- Goodreads.com.

Overrated submitted by 21621031390949 on August 28, 2022, 10:51pm An overrated book about truly annoying people.
Didn’t wow me submitted by Noight on July 3, 2023, 10:54pm The first story was a bit more interesting than the second, but the whole story kind of just felt like filler
Me too! submitted by lizgiessner on August 1, 2023, 1:18pm I was interested in the first section- Franny, too. But the more significant second part seemed to go on and on without making any sense until the very end: that we should be our best selves for others/Christ. I suppose the narration was humorous at times, but it was overly descriptive (so many cigarette lightings!), and I feel like I completely missed what Salinger was trying to say about his characters (and about suicide!). I don't understand why this book is considered a classic.
