In the meta-story, Veronica's relationship with Stoker moves into a new phase after she poses as the fiancee of his brother.

The looming castle is full of priest holes and passageways, and a bride gone missing on her wedding day. The villagers are full of superstition and the belief that the island's lord's family has the blood of mermaids in their veins.
