The riveting story behind the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the decade leading to the historic Apollo 11 flight. A visceral and intimate account told from Armstrong's perspective, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the film explores the triumphs and the cost, on Armstrong, his family, his colleagues and the nation itself; of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Technically Brilliant; Lacks an Emotional Core submitted by Meginator on July 3, 2019, 10:13pm This film is a beautifully made (and timely) tribute to Neil Armstrong and, to a lesser extent, the early NASA space missions. In its technical aspects, from the direction and performances to the convincing combination of practical and computer-generated special effects, the film is exquisite; the script, however, suffers from pacing issues and an inability to really define Neil Armstrong’s character. Watching this, you get the sense that it is intended to be a close character study, but Gosling’s version of Armstrong is too guarded to create much of a sympathetic bond between the character and the viewer, and the film’s emotional climax falls a bit flat as a result. I am glad that I watched this, and it does offer an interesting perspective, but I think the script fails in its intention to provide a captivating, personal human lens through which to view one of mankind’s greatest accomplishments. Without that x-factor, the film is just another repetition of an oft-told story.

Could have been better submitted by ferielp on July 18, 2019, 12:02pm Very low pacing and dull depiction of what was an incredibly exciting moment in history.

First Man submitted by lstorc on July 28, 2019, 12:05pm First Man is boring. The scenes are drawn out. It makes this almost painful to watch. I'd recommend it for anyone who is sick in bed with a fever. It isn't otherwise interesting.

Blu-Ray of First Man submitted by a2sue on August 31, 2019, 12:38am The Blu-Ray of First Man is boring and extremely slow-moving. How disappointing!!
