A couple becomes obsessed with their friend hearing them have sex, then seeing them have sex...until they can't have sex without him; a ten-year-old's birthday party takes a sinister turn when she wishes for "something mean"; a woman finds a book of spells half hidden at the library and summons her heart's desire: a nameless, naked man; and a self-proclaimed "biter" dreams of sneaking up behind and sinking her teeth into a green-eyed, long-haired, pink-cheeked coworker.

heard an NPR interview with the author submitted by ccrose on August 19, 2019, 1:24pm The story that made it into The New Yorker, Cat Person, was the lead off topic. As quirky as it was, it rang true, straight to the bone. More than just a bad date. Ooh, goose bumps. Creepy but more, I hope a small percent of women have had this experience though I fear it's common until women have experienced this or something like it enough times to trust their initial instincts right from the git-go. I appreciate the writer’s development of characters who live what each of us may have given a moment’s consideration, the what if’s that come to us unbidden.
A little dark but very interesting submitted by dntanzer on August 29, 2019, 8:02am These stories are weird and different but often interesting and hard to put down. I ended up interested in most of the stories.
A good short stories book to keep around submitted by leah karr on August 19, 2022, 6:33pm This one was good. I liked almost all the stories. Appreciated the authors ability to change her voice for the characters
