Evan goes from being a nobody to everyone's hero and a social media superstar after a chance encounter with Connor just before his suicide leads others to believe Evan was his only friend.
Evan is shy, lonely, and bullied for it. He has a chance encounter with Connor Murphy--just before Connor commits suicide. Evan's life suddenly gets turned around, and suddenly he isn't invisible anymore to the girl of his dreams--Connor's sister, Zoe, who believes Evan was Connor's only friend. As Evan goes from being a nobody to everyone's hero and a social media superstar, Evan is filled with confidence ... until things start unraveling. -- Adapted from jacket.

Love It submitted by binsur on July 2, 2019, 1:22pm Amazing book

unnecessary submitted by cdfine on August 1, 2022, 9:50pm The reading level is suitable for middle schoolers and I'm an adult who loves the musical so maybe it was just below my reading level but there is literally no reason for them to have turned this musical into a book. The book randomly switches between Evan's first-person perspective and a 3rd person omniscient ghost of Connor Murphy who appears to exist only for the purpose of Evan not actually being present for all of the scenes of the original story. The musical is very show-not-tell where you have to deduce that Evan is Autistic and has extreme anxiety and seeing that physical manifestation is a lot more relatable than the character just point-blank telling you what he's thinking and that he feels different from the people around him. Because the narration is from a teenage POV, it also loses out on humanizing the parents and exploring their pain and coping mechanisms and the only relevant characters are the other teens.
