Fiber fans, environmentalists and economic changers, this is for you! submitted by mowjac on March 5, 2019, 3:27pm A great read for fiber fans: you will learn all the steps that happen to your wool before you purchase it from the viewpoint of a fellow fiber aficionado turned shearer. Wilkes, a Detroit native, starts with shearing school and alternates stories of shearing with relevant information about mills, grazing, sheep breeds and natural dyes. Environmentalists can get ideas for new ways to affect climate change through sustainable grazing practices and Wilkes gives a clear and brief guide to why you no longer find "Made in America" labels and the difficulties to bring manufacturing back. Her prose is direct and when she uses statistics, they are mainly to make a point and don't bring the momentum of the book down.
