meh submitted by manz on January 24, 2019, 6:00pm Good acting, great sets and costumes, but a boring film. Nothing really grabbed me.

Good movie submitted by avrogers1 on June 19, 2019, 12:48pm This is definitely a movie you need to actually watch, make sure you can devote your full attention to it. It was really good! The cast is amazing and the acting is fantastic. The story flowed really well. Overall, they did a great job. I reccomend it

Delightful, but strange submitted by ckfinzel on July 17, 2019, 10:30pm This is a delightfully strange film based on an even more delightfully strange book. Jack Black was perfectly cast, and Cate Blanchett is always good. I thought the movie was well designed but made some strange choices at times. It was enjoyable to watch.

The House With a Clock in its Walls submitted by lstorc on July 23, 2019, 10:30am The House With a Clock in its Walls is immensely enjoyable for all ages! The acting is superb, and the scenery beautifully made.

An Absolute Gem submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:08pm I wasn't sure what to expect from this film, but I found it to be full of pleasant surprises. Not the least of these surprises was the acting: while I expected the excellent performances from Jack Black and Cate Blanchett, I have seldom seen a young actor perform with the emotional range and nuance of Owen Vaccaro. The role requires subtlety and the story is complex, yet Vaccaro resisted the impulse to overact and really sold the role. The story itself is equal parts gripping and enchanting, offering a spin on magic that feels fresh, though I got a little confused by the villains’ evil plot despite this ostensibly being accessible to younger viewers. I loved the humor and the film’s focus on relationships; all of the whiz-bang magical content appears in service of the story, which is rare in this type of film. I was so entertained that, at the end of the day, it didn’t end up mattering to me that I was a little confused. This is a strange film for sure, and I’m so happy to see that a quirky thing like this can find funding and an audience in the current landscape.
