A lengthy California drought escalates to catastrophic proportions, turning Alyssa's quiet suburban street into a warzone, and she is forced to make impossible choices if she and her brother are to survive. The drought—or the Tap-Out, as everyone calls it—has been going on for a while now. Everyone’s lives have become an endless list of don’ts: don’t water the lawn, don’t fill up your pool, don’t take long showers. Until the taps run dry. Suddenly, Alyssa’s quiet suburban street spirals into a warzone of desperation; neighbors and families turned against each other on the hunt for water. And when her parents don’t return and her life—and the life of her brother—is threatened, Alyssa has to make impossible choices if she’s going to survive.

Not Just For Teens submitted by ekjensen on July 19, 2020, 4:17pm This fascinating book about the brief apocalypse (i.e., water shortage and power outage) in southern California told through teenage characters who randomly form a team of sleuths for water is captivating. Easy, engrossing tale for a hard to put down book. Highly recommended for adults, too

Great read with interesting perspectives in a water crisis submitted by karmbruster820 on September 18, 2020, 10:19am What would YOU do if you had no water? No electricity? And everyone around you was just as thirsty and desperate as you? It's hard to imagine, but Dry certainly paints quite the picture of what could happen. From rioting for water at government relief sites, to the repercussions of drinking stagnant water, to those exploiting water for profit, this book has it all. Mainly following four teen protagonists as they search for water, brief flashes to other character perspectives later intertwine with the story. Just when you think they may finally be safe, another twist is on the horizon. A real page turner that might bring the reader a little anxiety!

Dry submitted by jhaberich on July 5, 2023, 7:25pm This book is poorly titled, as I found it was the opposite of dry. A thrilling book about survival while at the same time a heartbreaking book about loss, I enjoyed this from the first rush to Costco for water to the final death. I not only found an interesting, suspenseful read, I also learned so much even though I despise nonfiction. You should read it.
