A 70s Classic submitted by Meginator on June 20, 2023, 2:11pm This album’s original 8 tracks make for a brief runtime, but it’s an excellent example of the way that Earth, Wind & Fire spin their core soul music in several different directions, incorporating different genres along the way. While none of the tracks other than “Shining Star” really stand out from the pack, their consistently high quality makes for an excellent top-to-bottom listening experience that offers a few surprises without straying too far from the band’s core sound. The additional tracks are interesting enough in their own right but ultimately feel like supplemental material, although they too demonstrate the way that the group always sought new ways to evolve their sound. This is the type of album that is quietly great; it doesn’t immediately demand your attention, but by the time you’re finished you realize that there’s much more to it than initially meets the eye.
