My heart ached for her.. submitted by bookher on July 14, 2019, 7:45pm My gosh, this poor girl.. Made me remember how painful and poignent jr high was. I loved this girl though and kept cheering for her.

Eighth Grade submitted by lstorc on July 25, 2019, 10:02pm Eighth Grade is a painfully accurate and beautifully orchestrated film. It calls to mind what junior high would have been like for the characters of My So-Called Life!

Eighth Grade submitted by Varshini on July 30, 2019, 3:11am This was nothing like my 8th-grade experience. I understand it's a movie, but this wasn't a "relatable" film for me. I honestly thought the main character had a bad personality. 2/5

This is What Eighth Grade Feels Like submitted by Meginator on July 15, 2020, 9:10pm Content Warning: This film includes a (non-graphic) depiction of attempted sexual assault.
This film captures, with brutal accuracy, the awkwardness inherent in being a newly minted teenager struggling to figure out who you are. But instead of settling for typical teen movie clichés, the script sticks closely to its main character, Kayla, who is nearly completely isolated from her peers through no real fault of her own. Though a steady stream of irony hums beneath its surface, the film never elicits laughs at Kayla’s expense, instead evoking a deep sympathy as she tries to overcome her anxiety and relate to her classmates. The story’s details and Elsie Fisher’s nuanced portrayal of Kayla lend it a sense of emotional honesty, even as it broadly follows a traditional Hollywood narrative arc. The film is particularly interesting for its direct and frequent integration of social media into the storyline, which is crucial for understanding the current generation of middle schoolers, and also for its deliberate (at often exquisite) use of its soundtrack and electronic score to create and relieve dramatic tension. I’m not sure that the film will resonate with the age group it so expertly depicts, nor even if this is what Bo Burnham intended, but its message will feel relevant to older viewers who remember this pivotal stage of life all too well and know that, in some ways, it never disappears entirely.

Realistically awkward submitted by dntanzer on August 18, 2020, 3:21pm This is a really accurate look into life in middle school. It's incredibly awkward at times, but the ideas here are so important and worth watching for

8th grade submitted by a2sue on July 29, 2021, 7:51am Wow, this brought back memories... Painful ones.
