"Originally published in Japan as KISHIDANCHO-GOROSHI DAI-ICHI-BU ARAWARERU IDEA HEN and KISHIDANCHO-GOROSHI DAI-NI-BU UTSUROU METAFUA HEN by SHINCHOSHA Publishing Co., Ltd., Tokyo in 2017" -- Verso title page.
"The much-anticipated new novel from the internationally acclaimed, best-selling author of 1Q84 and Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage, Killing Commendatore is an epic tour de force of love and loneliness, war and art--as well as a loving homage to The Great Gatsby--and a stunning work of imagination from one of our greatest writers"-- Provided by publisher.
A painter retreats into a solitary house in the Japanese mountains to rethink his life after his wife deserts him. Another painter, Amada, used to live in the lonely house and hid the mysterious painting "Killing Commendatore" in the attic. Now the narrator must confront a mysterious ringing bell, a physical manifestation of an Idea, a precocious teenage girl, a Nazi assassination attempt during World War II in Vienna, and an underworld haunted by Double Metaphors-- while searching for an understanding of the nature of art. -- adapted from jacket

Killing Commendatore submitted by robertfreedman on February 6, 2019, 11:11am This is a wonderful book. The protagonist is unusual and well-developed. The language is exquisite and this is remarkable since it is a translation. This is one of the best novels I've read in a long time.

Least memorable submitted by courtneyhooper on August 12, 2022, 11:50pm Despite having read 10+ Murakami books, this is the plot I can’t remember clearly. I don’t know what that says about the book.
