Last season, Sam and Dean Winchester faced their greatest challenge yet: the all-powerful Darkness and sister of God, who restored their mother to life. In Season Twelve, the Winchesters must not only contend with an escaped Lucifer and the British Men of Letters (who've come to end their hunting days), but they'll also have to relearn what it is to be a family again after all these years.

Contains spoilers submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 15, 2019, 4:45pm After thwarting several apocalypses, the Winchester brothers settle down to raise a half-human-half-angel boy named Jack, who has grown into a teenager in two years thanks to his strange DNA combination. Jack, Sam and Dean attempt to break through to the parallel universe where the brothers' mother is being held captive and tortured by angels (who are evil in the alternate universe). The torture scenes are very disturbing.
After so many seasons, the plots begin to feel cliche or contrived, particularly with the introduction of doppelgangers and characters who never really die but can be brought back to life or back to Earth (from Heaven or Hell or wherever the hell they went).
On the bright side, this season does contain the hilarious episode "Scoobynatural" in which the Winchesters and Castiel find themselves thrust into an episode of "Scooby-Doo." Of course, Dean tries to flirt with Daphne and Castiel, not having the prerequisite cultural references, needs to have everything explained to him. Dean always tries to flirt and Castiel always misunderstands humans and their cultures, but the element of self-parody brings a lot of laughs.
