COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Very interesting look at the royal family submitted by timdufresne on August 1, 2018, 2:53pm Interesting look at the British Throne and the tensions of the monarchy.

Very flawed, but very interesting FICTION about the future of the Brit Throne. submitted by Tassos on October 21, 2019, 8:29am I could write pages on this flawed so-called "masterpiece theatre". It undertakes a very interesting topic, the succession of QE II, and portrays Charles III as a very principled monarch who, against his own family's interests, tries to protect the freedom of the press when his government tries to suppress it.

The script (the lines of the protagonists) is written in almost Shakespearian verse, must have taken a lot of effort to try to imitate the Bard

Most characters are miscast in that they look little like their real life counterparts nor did the directors bother using makeup to make them more realistic.

Charles looks nothing like the fellow that portrays him, who acted as as thuggish cop in "Passage to India". Camilla looks much more realistic with hat and veil, but without them, also does not resemble the real thing much.

The actress portraying Middleton looks far worse than the real thing, and is portrayed as a poor-mannered, insolent, ambitious, ruthless, ungrateful bitch, who was not fully content living a life of privilege and splendor, but wanted to dethrone her father-in-law too, only months (or days?) after his ascension to the throne.

Instead of his American wife, Harry is portrayed as a loser having a fling with a local girl, which is portrayed by a far from good looking actress, despite the film's claims to the contrary.

The viewer, if they have half a brain, sympathizes with Charles.

This was first produced as a play with the same actor playing Charles ( he later died at only 70). The writing is far better suited for the theater than on the screen.

Still it is worth watching, except for a nonsense scene with... Diana's alleged Ghost (which does not look like a ghost at all, but as a normal person). The movie is very charitable towards Charle's ex wife, makes no mention of her lack of culture and her addiction, among other things, to charlatan fortunetellers, psychics and other fakers, for whose services she would bill the Queen to the tune of more than $100k a year in today's $.

See this movie, it's worth it.
