The Tree of Life submitted by leighsprauer on April 15, 2023, 7:09pm Don’t be fooled by the fancy cast and the Cannes awards. This is a terrible movie. “This is not a movie, this is a screensaver.” – my 17-year-old. “America’s Boringest Home Videos” – my 15-year-old.
This is, I guess, about sin and redemption and flawed family dynamics and finding peace. First there is all of creation and evolution, which is filmed in real time, and then there is a boy with an abusive father, and his brother dies as a young adult, and then maybe there’s a glimpse of heaven? I don’t know. It seems like maybe it’s about why bad things happen to good people; like, why is this awful movie happening to a nice family like us?
Also everything is in a whisper, so don’t even try it without subtitles.
