Includes excerpt from 'Storm of Locusts,' the next installment of series.
"While most of the world has drowned beneath the sudden rising waters of a climate apocalypse, Dinétah (formerly the Navajo reservation) has been reborn. The gods and heroes of legend walk the land, but so do monsters. Maggie Hoskie is a Dinétah monster hunter, a supernaturally gifted killer. When a small town needs help finding a missing girl, Maggie is their last best hope. But what Maggie uncovers about the monster is much more terrifying than anything she could imagine. Maggie reluctantly enlists the aid of Kai Arviso, an unconventional medicine man, and together they travel the rez, unraveling clues from ancient legends, trading favors with tricksters, and battling dark witchcraft in a patchwork world of deteriorating technology. As Maggie discovers the truth behind the killings, she will have to confront her past if she wants to survive." --amazon.com.

Great world-building and characters submitted by dntanzer on August 27, 2018, 9:42am This book seamlessly integrates Navajo mythology into a thrilling post-apocalyptic story. I was really interested in the way the mythology affected the story and loved the characters - a bold, violent heroine, a respectful, healing male lead, and interesting supporting characters. My only complaint is that it was pretty easy for me to predict the plot. Still, I think it's an excellent opening to a great new series!
I'll definitely read the whole series submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 18, 2021, 10:28pm At first I thought this was a YA book because of the pacing of the story and writing style (as well as the young, unattached protagonist), but it quickly became apparent from the levels of fighting, violence, and bloodsplatter that this definitely isn’t. I would call it an action-adventure book, set in a dystopian post-climate-change-disaster US, focused on Indigenous culture (Dine/ Navaho, to be precise), and with a wonderful fantasy element thrown in. The pace is fast and furious, and I don’t typically read action/adventure stories, but it’s well done and I’ll definitely go on to read the rest of the series.
