"Hundreds of years ago, the last humans on Earth boarded the Exodus Fleet in search of a new home among the stars. After centuries spent wandering empty space, their descendants were eventually accepted by the well-established species that govern the Milky Way. But that was long ago. Today, the Exodus Fleet is a living relic, the birthplace of many, yet a place few outsiders have ever visited. While the Exodans take great pride in their original community and traditions, their culture has been influenced by others beyond their bulkheads. As many Exodans leave for alien cities or terrestrial colonies, those who remain are left to ponder their own lives and futures: What is the purpose of a ship that has reached its destination? Why remain in space when there are habitable worlds available to live? What is the price of sustaining their carefully balanced way of life--and is it worth saving at all?

Hard to keep track of the characters submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 12, 2022, 12:30pm The third book in a four book series, I found this one to be far too scattered. The author follows five different characters in alternating chapters. Two are young men and three are adult women. Each comes with a host of supporting characters, and no one intersects until just a little bit at the end. Basically, I found the whole thing quite hard to keep track of for most of the book. I appreciate what this book adds to the worldbuilding, but had to work too hard to keep track of too many characters for the payoff. (But I liked the 4th book, so it was worth reading for the sake of the series.)
Becky Chambers doesn't disappoint submitted by alotofaxolotl on July 14, 2022, 10:01pm This is the second book I've read of hers and enjoyed it more than the previous. What I appreciate is that her books ask questions and make me envision a more hopeful world. So much sci fi is dystopian and it's really refreshing to read something more bright, hopeful, a "why not?" vision of a world.
