Pretty Good submitted by timdufresne on July 10, 2018, 3:28pm This was a pretty fun movie that did a little bit more critical self-analysis of nerd culture that was sorely lacking in the novel. Still, it can't escape the weaknesses that are part and parcel to the novel (that the main character is also the least interesting, that there is not a lot of character growth or transformation, that nerd-culture as portrayed in the novel and film is a very narrow and white/male version of that culture, ect). I mean the world is taken over by 80s pop culture but Madonna and Michael Jackson are missing from the "Canon"?

Still, fun, breezy, well shot with pretty good use of the extensive CGI.

Fun sci-fi submitted by ima_rom on August 23, 2018, 12:42am The special effects are great!

Like the book better... submitted by Xris on December 26, 2018, 5:04pm ...but the movie was good too. Not sure how they would have put all the stuff from the book into the movie, but I missed some of it. Nice that the author was in on the screenplay, so it was still a good movie. I wanted more 80s references! (I also wish there was a behind the scenes for me to watch how the actors did the in-game characters.)

Ready Player One submitted by avrogers1 on June 19, 2019, 2:04pm I'll be honest this was my husband's pick and I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. Turns out it was great film. Not to far of a stretch from reality if we think about it. I really liked the cast and the special effects were great.

Ready Player one submitted by lstorc on July 6, 2019, 8:56pm This lacked the quality and undertones of the book. It's a how much better this could have been.

Read the Book submitted by krogers on July 19, 2019, 3:16pm The movie was enjoyable on its own, but disappointing after having read the book. The complete re-working of the various keys and gates was disconcerting - the ones selected in the book were much more engaging and faithful to the 80's homage that is a (or the) central theme of the book. It would have been worthwhile to make the movie longer just to use more of the original keys/gates and to develop them, and that concept, more fully.

Action flick submitted by majean on July 20, 2019, 10:47am The CG is good, and the action is heavy. The characters are about as deep as they usually are in action movies.

Entertaining submitted by Rumshaker13 on August 7, 2019, 1:30pm Not the best movie, but pretty entertaining and well done. Worth the watch

Good submitted by TLW1998 on August 8, 2019, 11:48pm Action packed video game movie, which was better than I expected

Good submitted by Lynne Aldrich on June 29, 2020, 9:43pm Liked the plot a lot.

Great Sci-Fi, Fun Movie for Teens submitted by MikkiMoscara on July 6, 2023, 9:16am I absolutely loved this movie and a lot of the scenes were nostalgic for me. My teen daughter also loves this movie, and though there are references to 1980s culture, I think it's aimed more at teens. However, I truly did enjoy the movie and highly recommend.
