A hard life submitted by ccrose on September 14, 2019, 11:42pm I had to stay focused to follow from one scene to another: the main character had ptsd that swirled around his day job as a hit man. Joaquin Phoenix’s character was startling in his ability to doggedly do his job and yet keep a tender heart that rang true. Warning: lots of blood. Phoenix has feelings of numbness, desperation, exhaustion, with suicide whispering in his ear. I’m still blinking at the relentlessness of his rage and his deep wish to set it all down. I want to follow up with other movies by the director, Lynne Ramsay.

Wow submitted by jibkidder on June 19, 2022, 9:41pm I first saw "We Need To Talk About Kevin" which didn't do that much for me, but this one blew me away. The arc, the film-making broadly, the performances, the music... just altogether one real gut punch of a film. Ramsay hasn't made all that much work, can't wait to see where she goes.
