Read by the author.
David Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation toward middle age and mortality. This is beach reading for people who detest beaches, required reading for those who loathe small talk, and also Sedaris' darkest and warmest book yet.

very little humor, more irony and situational musings but quite a bit
of somber whiny stuff and constant references to his "gayness".
He doesn't seem like he is wearing his age well. This from a pretty big fan of
his earlier books and someone who has attended his live readings.
An outstanding audio book from a great humorist submitted by A2AE on July 23, 2018, 1:18pm It's always a treat to hear an author read his own work, and Sedaris is at his best in this collection of humor essays. I especially love his essay about Carol the Fox and his essays about his partner Hugh. But really, I adored them all, even the ones that made me cringe (spoiler: feeding the turtle). I was laughing out load along with the book (the Sea Section!) and have to wonder what other drivers thought of that single driver cracking up as I drove along.

Sedaris wresting with mortality.
Not a side-splitting book, but a moving one.
very relatable submitted by kerstinrh on August 20, 2018, 8:36pm I found this book very relatable. Sedaris discusses different situations from her personal life with humor and honesty. From sibling relationships to dealing with his aging father to spousal interactions I found myself laughing out often and not wanting the book to end. Listening to this makes me want to go back and listen to all of his older books! The audio book was great and even included some material from live audience performances.
hilarious and touching submitted by kjshaffer on July 13, 2019, 6:24pm This is just about my favorite Sedaris book now (2nd only to "Me Talk Pretty One Day"). This book was both funny and heartbreaking. Sedaris shared intimate details about his relationship with his sister and mother that allow insight into the family's struggles with addiction and mental illness. A beautiful book that was beautifully read.
