Be Prepared for an Awesome Read submitted by Meginator on July 31, 2018, 11:35pm This book is absolutely delightful, from the hilariously ironic narrative voice to the cartoonish, yet incredibly expressive, drawings that together tell the story of a girl whose desperate bid to fit in with her peers leads her to a Russian summer camp in the woods of Connecticut. Vera Brosgol tackles some heavy emotional subject matter with a light touch that is appropriate for middle grade readers without sugarcoating the effects of loneliness and the inherent awkwardness of being a preteen. Her characters' faces, as cartoony as they are, are as wonderfully expressive as any you'll find in comics, and the illustrations are integral to setting the mood; she knows when to pull back and let her drawings silently progress the story. This book is absolutely fantastic and has a lot of appeal for audiences of all ages.

Great story! submitted by arader24 on June 28, 2022, 7:21pm This is a fantastic story about going to a Russian Orthodox summer camp. It goes through pre-teen awkardness, figuring out your place in a new environment and learning to enjoy yourself. I really liked it and thought the illustrations were good too.
