Grew on Me After a Few Tracks submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 6:02pm This album initially seemed to be missing a bit of life, perhaps due to the specifics of the recording setup, but after a few tracks I realized that the band’s live performances were less about the instrumental parts and more about the power of Chester Bennington’s voice. With that change in perspective, and the knowledge of Bennington’s impending suicide, the album becomes a testament to the emotional tumult and turmoil that has always driven the band’s best songs. These versions are different from the studio recordings, but in context and in hindsight they feel more personal, more tragic, more powerful. What’s most striking about this album is not the hard-hitting bangers, but the moments when the band pulls back and Bennington bares his soul; unexpectedly for a band that lives on the edge of rock, metal, and electronica, the slower songs are where this album finds its greatest light.
