The High Council is coming to camp and counselor Jen is determined to make everything perfect, even though a storm is brewing and kittens from the boys' camp are manifesting magical powers. It's every Lumberjane on deck as the girls do their best to prep the grounds for inspection-- but there are some storms no one can prepare for.

Everything That's Great About the Lumberjanes submitted by Meginator on June 19, 2019, 8:44pm This narrative arc does well to advance many of the Lumberjanes’ running narrative threads while continuing to build out the rich in-world history. The writing is as sharp as ever as the core group of scouts teams up with an unlikely ally when a VIP visit goes predictably awry. This allows the writers to develop new relationships among established characters and keeps the series feeling fresh over its long lifespan. The monster of the week is relatively benign by the Lumberjanes’ standards, but it does force the group to develop a different approach to their unlikely predicament in ways that illuminate each character’s unique perspective; the development really is incredible for such an established comic. One character’s own personal journey highlights the comic’s core value of acceptance, putting it directly into action, but the arc still has plenty of balancing levity through sight-gags and humorous asides. Visually, these issues are bright and richly saturated, though I found the transition between artists to be particularly jarring (both are good, they are just very different). Ayme Sotuyo’s approach is a novel one for the series, though, and I liked the new spin on these now-familiar characters. Overall, this is a well-crafted story arc that amplifies the comic’s best qualities while pushing it ever so slightly beyond its usual formula.
