An extraordinary woman's story submitted by ferielp on August 16, 2018, 11:31pm The sheer grit and force of will it must have taken to survive those setbacks is rivaled only by her unbelievable talent and intelligence.

A Compelling Story submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 8:58pm This is a surprisingly excellent film, and I’m glad I took a chance on it. Standout performances by the immensely talented Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba draw out the ambiguities in their characters and in Molly Bloom’s story and elevate the biopic into a work of art. Aaron Sorkin’s script is effective and as a director he makes good use of contrasting film and editing styles to evoke the various energies of the film’s scenes, using quick cuts and Chastain’s narration to show the quickfire world of high-stakes poker games and more pensive, muted long takes as the characters deal with the fallout of her actions. The story is rarely confusing, even with multiple timelines bleeding into one another, and the action itself is captivating throughout. Though the film ended on a tone that didn’t seem quite right to me, it is very well crafted and features amazing acting that keeps it entertaining while doing something a bit different artistically.
