A stirring and beautiful Western submitted by MH17 on July 26, 2018, 5:22pm A truly remarkable Western with strong performances by Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike and Wes Studi in leading roles and equally strong performances in supporting roles by Ben Foster, Jesse Plemons (he of Friday Night Lights and Breaking Bad) and the young actor portraying the grandson of Chief Yellow Hawk, Little Bear. Bale plays an Army captain, Blocker, tasked with escorting his old enemy, an ailing Chief Yellow Hawk, and his family from New Mexico to Montana, to sacred land where Yellow Hawk hopes to be buried. Allegiances shift on the road, horrors are encountered, lives lost, and yet there is something hopeful in the journey. Lovely cinematography and a gripping story make this a standout movie, one of the best westerns of the past decade.

A good western submitted by mandevil on August 30, 2021, 7:32pm Christian Bale is excellent as the reluctant, terse, dour army captain given an unwelcome and difficult task. Rosamund Pike truly nails it as the grieving widow whose entire family has been killed by Indians.
