Fantastic! submitted by flemingj on June 28, 2018, 5:22pm Very enjoyable middle grades book that teaches history with the modern day

Great book submitted by jcottey on June 25, 2020, 7:42pm Written perfectly for middle grade readers. While of course there is sadness in the book, there is also hope. The history detailed in the story emphasizes the issue of black boys being killed and that it is sadly not new or unusual. The author is wonderful at showing the reader the full personality of each character in a relatively short book. I definitely recommend it.

Loved the story submitted by alisonhatch94 on August 6, 2020, 9:14pm I thought this book was a really interesting way to talk about systemic racism and bias in a way that is easy to understand and great for young readers. You really feel for Jerome's character, but you also relate to his family, his friends, and the people he meets as a ghost. It's such a powerful, important message that I think is really relevant. I only wish you got to know some of the characters more but the book is pretty short.

great read submitted by sophiaszh on June 13, 2021, 12:55pm I liked this book because it taught me about racism in the past and present. I really liked how the white girl helped Jerome by creating a website to teach people, especially white police officers and white people, about racism and injustice. I could really feel how the characters were feeling. I would really recommend reading this. It is a really great book!

Quick, important read submitted by Xris on January 28, 2022, 10:54pm It's important for people to know the names and to fight for the injustice of black kids who are killed by the police or community. This books brings empathy and understanding to these situations, hopefully helping people to want to fight for justice. And bullying is a problem and needs to stop.
