Excellent Period Piece submitted by kencza on June 28, 2018, 11:11pm Coney Island, Mob Thugs, Fugitive, Mother/Daughter in love with same man......Woody
intertwines lives and subplots, this feels old school. Kate Winslet is mesmerizing

not a fan submitted by yufamily on August 11, 2018, 10:42am Woody Allen, yikes!

Not worth it submitted by ferielp on August 16, 2018, 11:51am Kate Winslet was given one aggravating tone to play. Timberlake didn't do much in his role as character/narrator. The whole thing didn't come together well. Temple and Belushi were great.

Don't bother submitted by rbseemail on August 27, 2018, 12:51pm Skip this one. I don't feel it captured the period. Stars didn't perform well.

Big fan of Woody Allen Movies, this one was OK but not great submitted by Tassos on February 20, 2019, 7:35am I am sick and tired of all these stupid nostalgia pieces from the 50s and 60s. Seems writers have ran out of ideas.

I always liked and enjoyed Woody's movies, a LOT. So despite a few lame reviews I saw, I was still hoping this would not be bad. But it sure was.

THis has been the first Woody Allen movie I saw where I had to fast forward during boring, humorless scenes.

Not just that, I fell ASLEEP on my couch shortly before its end, I saw the missing scenes next day, they were better (the ending) and overall the movie was ok even though it was a bit slow at first.

Great submitted by Harlowamy on August 29, 2020, 2:03pm Interesting story great cast

Not a comedy. submitted by GJBarnett2 on August 31, 2020, 9:26am I had never heard of this film. According to IMBD its production cost an estimated $25M but it grossed less than $1.5M in the US and less than $16M worldwide. No wonder. It certainly wouldn't appeal to Allen's typical fans. Incredibly dark. Not a giggle to be found. Makes Hamlet look like The Sound Of Music. The character who at first appears to be the villain turns out to be the most sympathetic of the lot.. Others not so much. Most are simply despicable. And like real life they don't wear signs around their necks but instead take a while to show their true colors. Winslet's character is one for the ages. Very good for what it does but it's like shining a flashlight into a coal mine.
