Good movie, horrible & sad story submitted by ecronin on June 16, 2018, 7:52am This seems like. A modern day "Mommy Dearest" story. Made me sad to watch.

Top performances submitted by kencza on June 16, 2018, 2:32pm by Margot Robbie and Allison Janney.....most know the story, this is a realistic dramatization.
Yes, there are people that live like this.

One to watch submitted by Lucy S on June 17, 2018, 5:46am Margot Robbie and Allison Janney delivered stand out performances in this funny, yet sad depiction of the real life story of Tonya Hardings rise and fall.

The Complexity of Truth submitted by Meginator on June 23, 2018, 3:06pm This film employs a variety of interesting tricks and tweaks to convey the complexity of Tonya Harding's story, as told by those in her inner circle during her skating career. Harding's recent attempts to publicly rehabilitate her image are a double-edged sword, perhaps, but this film is far from another PR move; it manages to be both sympathetic and honest, portraying her neither as a victim nor a villain, but instead as someone who struggled with many adverse circumstances. The filmmakers' careful deployment of fourth-wall-breaking asides and other indie-inspired narrative techniques subtly call attention to the inconsistencies in each of the participants' testimonies and ultimately leave it up to the viewer to decide how much truth may lie in each account. Though I found a few CGI moments to be less than convincing, the performances are exceptional; Janney's Oscar is well-deserved indeed. A compelling story of abuse, struggle, and failed redemption, this film illustrates how innovative techniques can be used to enhance narrative power when used thoughtfully, adding nuance to a deeply inconsistent and endlessly complex true story whose full truth will never be known.

Rough story submitted by LVDS on August 3, 2018, 8:10am Lots of violence and foul language, so not a young 'family' movie. Despite her horrible mother and poor choice of marriage, it's incredible Tonya survived and rose to the top of the ice-skating world. Sad life, yet powerful struggle of overcoming.

Heartbreaking submitted by lstorc on August 27, 2018, 6:31pm Tanya's tail is incredibly sad. It's like she never had a fighting chance at making something of herself in the world except for skating, which she then had to sacrifice. I think the Judge could easily have given her prison time instead of making her give up the one thing she was capable of doing at that point in time.

horrible submitted by Zaneeba on June 27, 2019, 8:46am not a good read and a bad story

brilliant: deals with difficult issues in an intelligent way submitted by gracebdo on August 18, 2019, 8:17pm I have seen I, Tonya 4 times now since it came out, and have laughed and cried and clutched my pillow each time. It deals with issues of class in olympic sports, especially in showy sports like figure skating, and does a fair job of telling Tonya Harding's story from her struggle with class issues and domestic violence. The character studies must have been in-depth, it was stunning to watch them engage with the camera during the "documentary-style" takes. My absolute favorite part that I rewind to watch over and over again is the part where Tonya is putting on makeup in front of the dressing room mirror before she goes out on the ice....trying not to cry. it is so lovely and heartbreaking and relatable. a must watch!

Great Stuff submitted by SaraP on June 8, 2023, 7:27pm I was super skeptical, and I avoided watching it until last night (June 2023). I should have watched it sooner. It's fantastic. I was in college when the incident happened and had no desire to relive that ridiculous, but the acting, writing, and directing is so good, I'd watch it again today.
