Brilliant French Noir submitted by Meginator on July 13, 2018, 12:40pm This film is an excellent, moody work with an intricate plot of cascading coincidences and a sense of inevitable fate that, along with the Miles Davis score, lends it a noir vibe. Louis Malle gives the story plenty of time to develop and uses lighting and frames (or lack thereof) to his advantage, and the film hums with slow-boiling tension. The techniques and story have excellent interplay, and the film never feels slow whether the characters are trapped, wandering aimlessly, or moving as quickly as they can. It's captivating.
