Doesn't Resolve Its Own Conflicts submitted by Meginator on August 17, 2020, 7:29pm Though not without its charm, this book fails to capitalize its good ideas. The plot centers on a boy who wants his friends to join his curling team (coached, inexplicably and rather implausibly, by a famous multi-sport superstar), only for interpersonal conflicts to threaten to doom their showing in The Big Game. I appreciate the author’s intent, but the conflict here has no actual resolution. Two characters are fighting the whole time, their arguments have no impact whatsoever on the team’s success, and they just kind of make up at the end, for no obvious reason other than an unspoken requirement that he book have a Teachable Moment. In the end, it’s worse than ineffective: the arguing characters’ actions led to victory, rendering the whole exercise in morality utterly moot.
