Decent Effects, Decent Performances, Terrible Script submitted by Meginator on July 28, 2019, 12:33pm Despite coming into this expecting a gloriously terrible action film, I still came away disappointed. On a very basic level, the film does live up to its premise: the special effects are terrific (with only one or two small exceptions), the stakes are unimaginably high (the fate of the world lies in one man's hands!), and some of the set-piece action sequences are exciting and clever (there's a dramatic kidnapping!). The actors do their best, but the oft-insipid script does them no favors and I constantly found myself actively distracted by how awkward the dialogue was. Unfortunately, this film is hampered by a terrible script and an overly didactic message that feels out of sync with the on-screen action, and it’s disappointing even if you come in with low expectations.
