Take one tent. Fill with 12 amateur bakers. Garnish with one venerable cookery writer, one blue-eyed bread-maker, and two comedy queens with a love of innuendo. Mix in some triumphs, disasters and soggy bottoms. Finally, sprinkle with a little television magic. And there you have the recipe for the most popular show of modern times. When The Great British Bake Off made its debut in August 2010, it had the makings of a modest hit. But nobody - not the programme-makers and certainly not those first contestants - could have predicted what was to come. Here was a show in which the biggest weekly drama was whether or not a sponge cake would sink in the middle. And oh, how we loved it. Here is the ultimate Bake Off fan book: from bread lion to bin-gate; heart throbs to Twitter trolls; soggy bottoms to sticky buns. This is the celebration of one of the most watched programmes on British television.

A well risen cake! submitted by mowjac on August 19, 2018, 9:45am This reads like a well risen chiffon cake, as lightheartedness in manner as the show, while giving fans details about each season, behind the scenes and the tragic break up of the originals. No one is villanized or pilloried and yet you learn more about TV, Sue, Mel, and all the rest.

Like Reading The TV Show submitted by ginarae3 on August 14, 2020, 8:41am This book was like reading the TV show. It was easy, beautiful to look at, and made me giggle just enough. It just made me feel good reading it. Highly recommend.
