When an oil spill prevents penguins from doing the things they love to do, Big Boots come and dress them in sweaters until they--and the water--can be cleaned. Includes facts about penguins and why dressing them in sweaters is not always a good idea.

Thought-provoking submitted by humann30 on August 4, 2020, 7:46pm The pictures of penguins are pretty, but the story is thought-provoking. My kid felt sorry for the penguins.
Loved the Visual Style submitted by Meginator on August 20, 2021, 7:46pm This picture book observes a group of penguins before and after an oil spill causes problems in their habitat. The text emphasizes the birds’ natural activities and the ways in which human intervention, both in the form of the initial catastrophe and the subsequent well-intentioned efforts to help, disrupts their lives. The illustrations are fantastic, rendering the Antarctic environment with a limited (but effective) palette of grays, blacks, and blues and using bright contrasting colors to visually distinguish the natural from the manmade. Unfortunately, the story is a bit confusing; I recommend that anyone reading this aloud to others look over the author’s explanatory note before sharing the book, as it provides some context that makes the narrative elements fall into place. Still, this book is worth checking out for the illustrations alone.
