Beneath the Sugar Sky returns to Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children. At this magical boarding school, children who have experienced fantasy adventures are reintroduced to the "real" world. Sumi died years before her prophesied daughter Rini could be born. Rini was born anyway, and now she’s trying to bring her mother back from a world without magic.

Third in the Wayward Children series.
Short and delightful fantasy.
Good for YA and adults that can suspend the urge to have everything make sense.
A lovely novella submitted by Jinxyluis on July 21, 2018, 12:20pm McGuire crafts another beautiful novella with this continuation of the wayward children series. It's a delight to return to this world.
Sweet and Savory Fiction submitted by Meginator on July 27, 2018, 10:08pm Though quite different in tone from its predecessors in the Wayward Children series, this book somehow exceeds expectations, adding depth to Seanan McGuire’s fantasy worlds and fleshing out ideas only hinted at in the previous books. The tone is also quite different, with a quest narrative and sense(s) of place taking precedence over the deep characterization that drove the other books. The result shines a captivating light on new corners of this world, the series growing ever deeper in unexpected, and welcome, directions.

This series is fast-paced and easy to read, but I didn't really find myself enjoying the plot of this third book. I was never really attached to any of the characters and the story seemed to resolve itself in less than five pages, which was pretty disappointing and anticlimactic. I think it might be better if I tried to read all of it in one sitting rather than stopping at various points in between since the book is so short.
