"An epic battle begins when a middle-aged American husband and father of two learns that he has lost his job. Keeping the news from his nagging wife and wound-up children, he packs up the family and embarks on a full day of park hopping amid enchanted castles and fairytale princesses. Soon, the manufactured mirth of the fantasy land around him begins to haunt his subconscious. An idyllic family vacation quickly unravels into a surrealist nightmare of paranoid visions, bizarre encounters, and an obsessive pursuit of a pair of sexy teenage Parisians"--Container.

Yeah, so... submitted by majean on July 21, 2018, 4:05pm This movie is strange. But having been shot guerilla-style in the Disney parks without Disney's foreknowledge, it's impressive. The acting is legit and the actors have great chemistry - this is a perfectly believable family with very real reactions to each other and the park. As for plot... Um...? It's complicated. I highly suggest looking into the history of how this film was made and the writer/director's motivations and inspiration. It's really a very interesting story and helps explain some of the more bizarre aspects of the plot. So far, this is his only film.

Impressive Production, Lacking in Story submitted by Meginator on June 19, 2021, 11:35am Filmed in secret within Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom, and Epcot, this film is more notable for its technical achievements than for its actual contents. The core idea of a perfect family vacation disrupted by a series of surreal breaks from reality is an excellent one, but the film lacks the pacing and plotting needed to make the story come together thematically. This is a shame, because the filmmakers did a wonderful job with continuity and the actors (including a couple of young children) pull off the neat trick of creating a coherent(ish) story while posing as ordinary tourists. The score, too, is excellent, mimicking the feeling of various Disney attractions without coming too close to a copyright violation; viewers familiar with the original music will experience an additional level of displacement with these close-but-not-quite versions. Viewers familiar with the parks will probably be annoyed with the casual swapping of Disneyland and Walt Disney World (Florida hasn’t had Snow White’s Scary Adventures in almost two decades and It’s a Small World only goes outside in California), but I charitably chose to interpret this as adding to my own general sense of disorientation. Ultimately, this film is more interesting for its origin story than for the story it depicts, but its mere existence is an achievement in itself.
