COMMUNITY REVIEWS

One of the first films about interracial romance submitted by willow on April 5, 2016, 3:37pm This movie depicts a relationship between Megan Davis, played by Barbara Stanwyck, and General Yen, a Chinese warlord played by Nils Asther; the New York Times film reviewer noted "Mr. Asther's make-up is impressive, with slanting eyes and dark skin. He talks with a foreign accent." His concubine is played by Toshia Mori, a Japanese immigrant. The love scene occurs during a dream. The film was made prior to the Hays code, which banned depictions of miscegenation; there was a public outcry against the "indecency" of this film.
