Nope. Messed up! Horrible. submitted by iamnotonfire on April 10, 2014, 9:05am Haven't watched it but know enough about it to know its horrible. I am very disappointed withe the Hobbit movies. They do not follow the book whatsoever and the movies are way too long. Peter Jackson did no think enough about this. One, because the Hobbit had no Elf-to-Dwarf relationship and in the Lord of the Rings books it said Legolas and Gimli where the only Elf-to-Dwarf relationship so how is it that the Hobbit has one and the Hobbit is before the Lord of the Rings and TOLKIEN wrote it. This isn't rocket-science this is commonsense, Jackson! Two, because there's in no such thing as Tauriel and no mention of a young female elf. Three, I used to like Kili and Fili when i didn't know when they were coming out with a movie, when i first opened the Hobbit a few years ago. There supposed to have that reddish-blonde hair. I don't agree with these movies at all. And i CERTAINLY don't agree with Legolas being in this movie either. Why can't people keep it clean. This movie is bloody rubbish!

Okay submitted by rlmorgan on June 13, 2014, 7:04pm Not bad as a movie in itself. But the movies do not follow the books. This one especially is really far off Tolkien's work. If you completely love the book and hate movies that stray from their original works don't watch it. The story line is only very basically based on Tolkien's work and there are new characters. It's ok as a fantasy movie as long as you don't expect Tolkien. It is better as a DVD than in the theater because of its length.

Great submitted by DoodleBob on June 15, 2014, 4:25pm It was a great movie in my opinion, lots of action, which I like in the movies that I watch.

gooood submitted by manz on June 17, 2014, 8:51am I loved it! SMAUG! I loved Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug. I like the LOTR movies and the Hobbit movies, but only because I view them as separate entities from the books. Because they stray from the books.

Way Too Long submitted by rmhawkins on June 18, 2014, 9:26pm While I have heard from many dedicated fans about their concerns, my primary concern with this film is not the addition of characters or deviations from the original plot. This film was well done, but it was drawn out far longer than it needed to be. It clocks in at around 2 hours and 45 minutes. Unless your film is "Gone with The Wind" or "Giant," there is no reason a film should be that long. The scenes with Smaug are wonderful, but the ending is abrupt. I wish they had not made this book into so many movies. It worked for "The Lord of the Rings," but it has not seemed as natural a fit for "The Hobbit" due to its content and length.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug submitted by SBNB on June 24, 2014, 7:44pm It's not as good as the first Hobbit movie, in my opinion. And overall, I would say it's just mediocre. Three movies is way too much for such a short book.

Like it submitted by AprilCDB on July 29, 2014, 11:44am I haven't read the book, so watching the Hobbit movies is a new story to me and I liked it. Maybe if I had read the book I'd feel different.

alright submitted by cinderellariley on August 14, 2014, 3:09pm If you liked the other hobbit movies you would like this one also

Disappointment submitted by pooh on July 10, 2016, 2:44pm If you are a fan of the books first then this is hugely disappointing. Added characters, made-up romances, made up plot... I had high hopes for these movies, but I should have known it would turn out terrible when they said it would be 3 movies. Watch the animated version of the Hobbit if you want a movie version.

The Hobbit! submitted by avrogers1 on June 20, 2017, 12:38pm I really liked these movies

Good submitted by anacoluthon on August 21, 2018, 7:42pm I do think three movies was asking a bit much from The Hobbit, but nevertheless I ended up really enjoying this new trilogy. I was surprised by how good of a voice actor Benedict Cumberbatch is.

nice movie submitted by Zaneeba on June 15, 2019, 8:37pm this movie was really too long but besides that this movie is really GOOD!!

Good submitted by yingfeng on June 17, 2019, 10:33pm Good

Nice job submitted by yufamily on August 18, 2019, 4:02pm Another winner from Peter Jackson

Hobbit submitted by nikebrand on June 19, 2020, 11:41am If you haven't read this you should.

Meh submitted by bec on June 23, 2022, 10:23am There are a few jumping the shark moments in this trilogy, but Thorin Oakenshield surfing a wave of lava in Smaug's lair using his shield as a board was the one for me.

Some good stuff here in between the padding submitted by eilusk on July 24, 2022, 3:45pm There were a lot of things I liked in this one. Like for example, I liked the Bilbo & Thorin dynamic, and I thought the Laketown set looked really cool, and the effects on Smaug + Cumberbatch's performance were PHENOMENAL.

Most of the action scenes were pretty bad. They went on too long and revolved around mediocre spectacle and ridiculous CGI stunts. Personally I think something like surfing on lava can maybe work in an animated film, or a funny adventure film that uses that stuff to set up physical comedy or creative stunts during the fight, but in a relatively serious fantasy drama like this it feels just plain stupid.

I'd watch this again at home, but only if I had a magazine to read or a friend to chat with when the plot thins.
