Psychocandy submitted by Caser on July 9, 2011, 11:47am JAMC made their name on their debut LP, Psychocandy, a cacophony of feedback and noise rock jams with surprisingly catchy hooks and melodies. 21 singles starts with these songs. However, this reviewer finds the middle 10 tracks, which cut back the feedback and focus on the pop songwriting, the most compelling. Highlights among this section are "Happy When It Rains", "Darklands", and "Head On". The band found its sound early and stuck to it, and with simplistic synthsized beats backing almost all the songs here, that sound can get more than a bit repetitive after track 18 or so.

Their stage presence was detached, angry, and loud, a prototype for the majority of indie rock bands ever since. You can hear it in the affect-less delivery of lyrics across the board on this compilation. If you like Pixies, The Strokes, The Cure, and Echo and the Bunnymen and still haven't heard JAMC, it's a great time to check them out.
