annoying presentation submitted by camelsamba on June 25, 2019, 9:44pm In general, I appreciate the Science Comics series, but I found this particular volume to be quite annoying. As described above "a little brown bat whose wing is injured ... is taken to a bat rehabilitation center where he meets many different species of bats. They teach him how they fly, what they eat, and where they like to live." That storyline is used to present the a lot of natural history facts about bats - but the way it is presented, dropping in and out of the "story" and various factoids - is poorly done and distracting.

Fun and informative submitted by KimB on August 30, 2022, 12:13pm I really like how this book balances a story with learning, it isn't just a dry read-through of facts. It actually keeps my kid's interest. My only complaint is that the humans in the book are your standard storybook people: white, thin, able-bodied. The very few non-white humans look to be a literal afterthought, like the author chose (not even characters, just people diagrams) that were only in a single panel to add POC after the book was done. The number one tipoff that the POC are just re-colored white people: they all have white-people hair. It's so ridiculous that it's almost funny.
