COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Outstanding submitted by Meginator on June 21, 2020, 2:56pm One of the most interesting things about listening to this album is picking out its influences from ragtime and blues and the ways in which it pushes forward into newer, more modern forms of jazz. These tracks are full of familiar rhythms incorporated into later works, and run the gamut from straight-up ragtime and blues to piano-driven smooth jazz. Armstrong’s virtuoso trumpet is clear and often soars above the backing musicians, but they hold their own alongside the master, who is at the top of his game here. Listening to this today, it’s easy to tell why Armstrong has had a lasting influence on music; he’s simply brilliant.
