Major label debut submitted by tisaallen on June 21, 2022, 6:28pm Sonic Youth’s first album for Geffen (their sixth overall) still packs plenty of weird guitar sounds into its concise uptempo songs.

Important But Uneven submitted by Meginator on July 12, 2023, 10:31am I can understand how this album is important to the development of grunge and other forms of alt-rock that became popular in the 1990s, but I found it to be really uneven and at times somewhat unpleasant to listen to. The band definitely embraces an experimental mindset here, but the innovation often obscures its purpose and feels more like it’s done for its own sake than for the quest to create something interesting or even sonically coherent. When the band does blend their noise-rock ambitions with more conventional song structures, the results are still punchy even decades after their release; this, however, made it all the more frustrating to me that so much of the album feels so unfocused. I did enjoy a few of the standout tracks, but the overall experience was very hit-or-miss.
