COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Absolutely Iconic submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:53pm Billie Holiday’s iconic style is a perfect marriage of the blues and jazz, with raw emotional storytelling in the vocals set against a smooth, flowing background. Though Holiday’s vocal performances are often (rightfully) the focus here, these tracks also showcase remarkably intuitive interplay between the singer and the instrumental soloists, who often pick up on the nuances in her work and weave them into their own features. Holiday’s work is so unique, yet so effortless, and her approach creates a wonderful blend that highlights the strengths of the genres she takes inspiration from while creating something that is wholly her own.
