COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Surprisingly good! submitted by aklute on June 19, 2014, 9:43am Very well done action movie that actually avoids some of the worst cliches.

Just ok submitted by rlmorgan on June 21, 2014, 12:44pm I liked the concept and the overall message of the movie. There is an underlying political commentary that the writers/director delivers well. But I didn't really like the movie itself. The characters are cliche and it just isn't that interesting in the details.

Something to think about submitted by leenajong on August 18, 2015, 9:54pm As usual all it takes is one individual to destroy a utopia that they can't have.

a movie for its time submitted by shumoon on September 17, 2016, 10:23am While set in the future, the themes of income inequality and environmental degradation are hot issues now. While it is not necessary to know the context in which this film was made, it does help one appreciate it more.

Tropes Come to Life submitted by Meginator on August 6, 2017, 1:49pm Elysium is fine; the cast is fairly good, the story is engaging and relevant, and the action offers a fine escape for its running time. However, it feels like the film missed a chance to be deeper; it relies too heavily on cliché and hits viewers over the head with its themes without much subtlety. It's not bad, exactly, but I don't think it will have much staying power despite its vast potential. I really wanted this film to be great, but instead it's just fine.

Pretty Good SciFi submitted by timdufresne on August 10, 2018, 4:46pm Not revolutionary, but quite good and action-packed

weird submitted by yufamily on August 13, 2019, 12:20pm not entertaining

Matt Damon being Matt Damon submitted by nemiller on August 30, 2019, 2:06pm It's one of those films where a bunch of people risk their lives, and some of them die, in order to save Matt Damon. His character was unlikeable and uncompelling.
