This is old-school fire-and-brimstone country music, early enough that it takes most of its cues from bluegrass while moving slightly into a new musical paradigm. The Louvin Brothers have amazing vocal chemistry and a lot of musical skill, and the lyrics range from typical benign love songs to hilariously earnest religious fervor. It’s easy to tell how the duo had such a large impact on country music going forward, but the lyrical content definitely won’t be for everybody.
