A High Point for Garfield and Friends submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2022, 3:36pm This compilation of daily Garfield comics comes from the strip’s best era, displaying a solid grasp of the characters and a good sense of how to balance sarcastic humor and genuine affection both within the panels and between the strip and the reader. I’m not a fan of the way that Davis draws female characters (he seems to have two molds, and both are offensive), but he is fantastic at depicting Jon, Garfield, Odie, and the various animals that surround him. The best strips are set around Halloween and Christmas, although both of the Christmas arcs in this collection are somewhat disappointing given the general strength of the seasonal storylines throughout Garfield’s history. With cameo appearances from Arlene, Nermal, and the neighborhood dogs, and an excellent balance between stand-alone comics and week-long themes, this is an excellent collection that will have you craving lasagna and hating Mondays along with the best of them.
