Written in 1926, just before the advent of "talking" pictures, The Call of Cthulhu, a tale of madness and monstrous creatures, is one of the most famous and influential tales of H.P. Lovecraft, the father of gothic horror. This film is done in the style of a classic 1920s silent movie using the "Mythoscope" process -- a mix of modern and vintage techniques. The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has worked to create the most authentic and faithful screen adaptation of a Lovecraft story yet attempted.
DVD, region 0.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Great indie silent horror film take on Lovecraft submitted by irenzero on October 2, 2008, 6:13pm This indie film was made using silent film era sets, special effects and techniques to great effect. The one thought to be unfilmable story is translated directly from the short story of the same name, and the cast and crew show what a small group of filmmakers can create when they put their minds to it. This is a lot like what the film would have been if it had been made in the 1920s, when Lovecraft was writing the story. It’s first class, fun and literate. Highly recommended.

Extremely Well Done submitted by Chris82 on July 30, 2011, 7:08pm This is a good movie. When I watched it I thought it was a real silent movie written and made in the 20s. I was shocked to find out it was actually made in 2005 by a very small group of people.
