Better Than Expected submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2022, 3:32pm While this album lacks the easygoing jam band vibes of the band's best songs, its brand of complex laid-back pop is still fairly effective. I'm not sure why they decided on "American Baby" as the lead single, as it is one of the weaker tracks and doesn't really represent the album's overall musical feeling. What the songs here lack in catchy choruses they make up for with musical depth, and they reward multiple listens rather than focusing on the quick hits. This isn't DMB's best album, and it doesn't make the best use of their unique talents, but I think its generally poor reputation is also a bit harsh given the generally high quality here.
