Penelope Wilhern is born to wealthy socialites. She is afflicted by the Wilhern spell that can only be broken when she finds love. Hidden away in her family's estate, the lonely girl meets a string of suitors in her parent's futile attempt to break the curse. Each eligible bachelor is enamored with Penelope and her sizable dowry, but only until her curse is revealed. Lemon, a mischievous and eager tabloid reporter, wants a photograph of the mysterious Penelope and hires Max to pose as a prospective suitor to get the shot. The handsome down-on-his luck gambler finds himself falling for Penelope. He decides to disappear so he will not disappoint her or to expose his surreptitious ways. Fed up by this latest betrayal and determined to live life on her own terms, Penelope breaks free from her family and ventures into the world alone. She finds adventure and meets Annie, her first friend, and becomes the person she was meant to be.

Penelope Teaches Others submitted by gem on July 11, 2018, 1:21pm Penelope had wonderful stuff inside. She was smart, winsome, wise, innocent, funny and insightful. Her parents had goals. Her dad seemed to want her to be happy, and her mom seemed to want to get her married off so she could fall in love (or have someone love her truly) and have that nasty spell broken. Poor Penelope had to endure the embarrassment of meeting "appropriate" suitors, who didn't seem to find her appropriate because of her nose anomaly. Their constant rejection of her suitability for them was discouraging. Finally, Penelope summons the courage to change things and her life changes. Her parents, of course, freak out. But the story has twists and turns that keep you interested.

Playful movies like this that examine our beliefs that outside appearance is everything are helpful.

A Sweet Rom-Com with a Good Message submitted by dntanzer on August 27, 2018, 9:45am If you like sweet, sometimes cheesy rom-coms, this is a great pick for you. I think the message of the story was wonderful - all about learning to love and accept yourself as you are.

Touching submitted by lstorc on August 27, 2018, 5:18pm This was imaginative tale about the importance of love and not judging others based on appearance.
