Once upon a Christmas was originally released in 1984 to accompany a CBS television program. In 1997, the album was released on the BMG Special Products label with a slightly altered track listing. The song order has been slightly rearranged, two songs have been omitted, and Parton's 1982 recording "Hard candy Christmas" has been added.

Yep, It's What You Expect submitted by Meginator on July 22, 2021, 9:17pm I was sold on this album as soon as I saw that it existed, and though I hoped for a bit more humor the duo absolutely delivers as expected. The musical style is more pop than country, though it has its Nashville accents here and there, but its feels uniquely suited to this particular pairing as their undeniable chemistry brings something new to familiar favorites. Dolly Parton’s original songs deserve to be considered for inclusion into the standard holiday canon, capturing the unique spirit of seasonal tunes without becoming overly kitschy, and the entire album has an honesty to it that is rare in this type of production. I’ll come back to this one again.
