Araminta Ross was born a slave in Delaware in the early 19th century. Slavery meant that her family could be ripped apart at any time, and that she could be put to work in dangerous places and for abusive people. But north of the Mason-Dixon line, slavery was illegal. If she could run away and make it north without being caught or killed, she'd be free. Facing enormous danger, Araminta made it, and once free, she changed her name to Harriet Tubman. Tubman spent the rest of her life helping slaves run away like she did, every time taking her life in her hands.

Hard to put down! submitted by bookworms on June 18, 2018, 11:09pm This book does a great job of showing the bravery of Harriet Tubman. I have learned so much from it! It starts off with Harriet's childhood, which was very hard. As she grows us, she learns how to be tough and she ends up freeing thousand of slaves. This book was quite action packed and educational. I love this series!

History you can't set down submitted by FordAlpha on August 8, 2019, 9:23pm Nathan Hale's brilliant nonfiction graphic novel series brings to life people and events in American history. They are carefully researched (with great bibliographical and fact-checking sections at the end) and expertly assembled to create engaging, action-filled stories that are difficult to set down, and appropriately leavened with humor. It's hard to say who loves these more, myself or my middle school-age son. My younger children also enjoy picking them up to scan the pictures, and my 2nd-grade daughter has begun to actually read them and tell me facts that she learned. I love how "The Underground Abductor" portrays Harriet Tubman in the full context of her life and the times that she lived in, helping the reader understand the decisions that she made.

Awesome book submitted by Bookeepers on August 4, 2022, 8:00pm Approachable introduction to the story of Harriet Taubman. More engaging than most youth biographies.
