Lilly Hiatt’s songs gently fold folk and country elements into a classic singer-songwriter template that suits her vocal style perfectly. She is an excellent storyteller and each song has a good melody sitting at its core, making them instantly memorable and excellent to listen to. The album’s musical mood is generally upbeat, making for an interesting contrast with some of the lyrical subject matter, but it all comes together quite well in the end.
